With an important job title like President comes a pretty substantial job description. A president is an essential part of any company's leadership, but few people truly understand what goes into this big-league role.
American Bedding would not be what it is today without its founding and acting president, Boyd Reynolds. Let's take a closer look at Boyd's job from his perspective and in his words.

What are you responsible for at work?
- Purchasing and negotiating prices for raw materials and supplies
- Providing pricing on larger sales quotes
- Making employment decisions
- Developing new product lines based on customer input
What makes you good at what you do?
Sometimes running a business requires you to make tough decisions. The Lord has blessed me with the ability to be a decision maker.
Where did you get the idea to start American Bedding?
Long story. In a nutshell, it started from a small local mattress manufacturer here in Athens. Then we started adding different market segments through the years. We got where we are today with a lot of prayer.
What was the most challenging part of starting the company?
- Having adequate cash flow (capital) to grow
- Knowing how fast to grow
- Deciding what products to provide
- Choosing not to be all things to all people
What has been the most rewarding part of running American Bedding?
Having family involvement and godly people around me. Our children grew up around the business from an early age. Whether they were watching a movie in the office while Mom and Dad did inventory or bouncing on the stacks of foam, it always felt like “home” to them. Today all three of our adult children are involved in the busines. I also have had the opportunity to work with several of my brothers here at the company.
Why do you believe in your company?
I have confidence in our people and products. We've made quality and on-time delivery two of our benchmarks, and thanks to our great team, it's rare for us to falter in either of these areas.
What have you learned in 20 years at American Bedding?
The people make a company what it is. We need everyone -- from the salesmen, to the production crew, to the shipping department -- to make this company successful, and we have been blessed with a great team over the years.
Outside of work, what's most important to you?
My relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing in my life. It shapes every decision I make, both in business and at home.
What do you do when you're away from work?
Our family is very close. As I mentioned, they’re very involved in the business, but we also enjoy being together outside of work. We do a lot of outdoor activities together such as skiing, farming, hunting and fishing.
