American Bedding requires all first-time customers to prepay for the first order via wire transfer, prepaid check, or any major credit card. Due to the unique shipping of our products, American Bedding does not offer online ordering at this time.
With American Bedding being a direct-to-consumer mattress manufacturer, we have the freedom to customize our mattresses to your exact need or specification. For custom mattresses and furniture, we simply require the customer to sign off on a quote showing the custom size that was ordered.
American Bedding will not accept product returns on custom-sized covers or mattresses. We also ask that the customer measure carefully when placing an order for custom-sized mattresses.
SofLux OX is a 210 denier nylon that has been coated on the backside of the material with a polyurethane coating to make it waterproof. In addition to being a waterproof mattress, the formulation of the coating allows the fabric to breathe. The advantages of SofLux over vinyl are:
Advantages of SOFlux OX over vinyl:
On the other hand, our vinyl mattress is made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is constructed of three different layers of material. A layer of vinyl with a layer of mesh (known as scrim). This gives the vinyl strength, and then we add another layer of vinyl. The three layers go through a process to laminate them together.
Both vinyl and SOFlux OX meet Cal 117 fire specifications.
This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive, and the answer depends on the specific product. For most of our products, we recommend using a non-bleach cleaning solution to wipe down the mattress. We also suggest spraying the vinyl down with a spray such as Lysol to disinfect the mattress.
You should avoid any cleaners with chlorine, like bleach as it will dry out the vinyl making it brittle and reducing the lifespan of the mattress. Spray cleaners such as Formula 409 or Simple Green work well with SOFlux Ox Nylon fabric as well as vinyl.
Lay your mattress on a table or other flat surface, and with a person on each side of the mattress, stuff the mattress down into the replacement cover ensuring that both people push at the same time.
American Bedding is required by the Consumer Product Safety Commission to provide guard rails for our bunks beds. Since all of our metal bunk beds are demountable (meaning they can be used as a single bed or a bunk bed,) American Bedding does not include the guard rails in the cost of the bed. This allows us to keep our pricing competitive and allows you — as the consumer — to determine if you will need guardrails based on your configuration.
Please note: We strongly recommend the use of guard rails in any bunk bed configuration. Guardrails go a long way towards keeping an individual safely in bed, thus preventing harmful injuries to residents. Please check with your state to determine if guardrails are a requirement.
The American Camp Association requires that guardrails be used on all bunks. This is required for accreditation. For more information on the use of guardrails in summer camps, please take a look at the ACA’s Standards.
American Bedding asks all organizations to check their state regulations on guardrail requirements. Take a look at our recommended safety instructions.
Our metal bunk beds, wooden bunk beds, folding cots, dorm beds, and mattresses are used in a variety of facilities.

KD stands for Knockdown or assembly required. This just indicates that you’ll have to put the furniture together, but each piece comes with detailed instructions — and we have videos on our site!
Almost all of our furniture comes with detailed assembly instructions inside the packaging. Additionally, we have how-to videos available upon request and we have an assembly team available for hire. And, of course, you can always call our dedicated sales team if you have any questions about the assembly of your industrial bedding or furniture.
Accessories aren’t automatically included — all rails, ladders, and privacy partitions must be purchased separately. And you can do so here!
While our nightstands do not lock, our other storage solutions, such as the wardrobes, have padlocking systems. These locks can easily be cut and/or replaced if the client leaves or loses the key. For our 4-drawer chests, the first and third drawers lock, ensuring guest privacy. Additionally, the under-bed chest drawers lock independently of one another.
Bed bugs are small, wingless insects that feed on warm-blooded animals and live in dark spaces close to their food source and are most active at night. Bed bugs commonly reside:
Because of the large volume of clients coming and going each year, all facilities are vulnerable to an infestation of bed bugs – it only takes one client to bring in enough bed bugs to infest an entire structure.
Some signs of bed bugs include:
Once a structure has become infested with bed bugs, they are very difficult to completely eradicate because they are nocturnal, live within the furniture, furnishings, mattresses, and walls, and require very little food. That’s why it’s much better for your facility to try to keep them out altogether. Organizations should be aware of the threat of bed bug infestation and learn to limit the potential for this devastating problem.
If you want to avoid a bed bug infestation, you do have several preventative options. Regular cleaning of all bedding and fabric is a must for any institution, but don’t stop there! Regularly cleaning walls, outlets, corners, and behind wall hangings is also necessary. For more tips on preventing an infestation, download our free Bed Bug Prevention Checklist now.
